LET'S BOND SHALL WE...
As some of you may or may not know, I am a solitary witch. I belong to no group or coven, instead I choose to worship and respect the earth alone, in my own way. My snakes are my familiars; my magickal partners. I sometimes use my snakes shed skins when I do certain rituals, such as good luck or fertility charms. I have added this section for anyone who would like to connect more with their snakes, regardless of whether you are a witch or not. Connecting with any animal makes me feel more in tune with nature.

Usually when your first get a new snake home, it is best to leave him or her alone until they feel settled in. After a few days, or after your snake has eaten for the first time and digested its meal, you can then attempt to bond and connect with your snake. With each of mine I set aside some quiet time so I could handle them and get them used to being out of their tanks. Sit in a comfortable spot and just let your snake sit on your lap or hold him on your hand. If it wants to explore, let him. Just make sure you keep an eye on him so he doesn't slither away or tries to get inside your couch! Since I got all of my snakes when they were babies, it was easy for me to hold them in my hands and lay them against my chest so they could feel my heartbeat. Usually this method calms Valeck right down and he won't move a muscle! I take deep breaths and try sending positive, relaxing energy through my hands into the snakes. Keep in mind that all snakes are different, each possessing their own personalities. If your snake seems to be always active or agitated when he is out, then you should try to relax yourself first before handling your snake. The snake needs to feel comfortable. With Orlock being my first snake, I was very tense when holding her since I was still pretty much learning as I went, so it took me some extra time to bond her to me. That extra time worked out very well as today she loves being out of her tank and seems content to lay in my lap if I am meditating or doing a ritual at my alter. Valeck sometimes slithers right across everything, knocking things over!!! I suggest taking as much time as you need to get your snake connected with you. Do not rush and be patient and calm each time you hold your snake. Also keep in mind that if you get a wild caught snake, chances are it will be a difficult eater and might be a little "bitchy" at first. This will take more time to settle your snake down. Taking your snake to a good vet for a check up is always a good idea. I feel a lot better knowing that my snakes are in great health, which means they will be with me for a very long time!! So, take a deep breath, relax and let the bonding flow between you and your snake!! It can only get better after that!! Blessed be everyone!!
